How Did Sally Mcneil Kill Her Husband?

Former American bodybuilder Sally McNeil was convicted guilty of killing her husband Ray, a competitor for Mr. Olympia. In professional bodybuilding, the McNeils were the most well-known couple. Ray McNeil’s career peaked in 1991 when he was crowned Mr. California.

Sally was a formidable competitor in the late 1980s, winning the U.S. Armed Services Physique Championship twice. But the couple’s turbulent relationship was fueled by jealousy, physical abuse, ‘roid rage, and infidelity.

Bodybuilder spouses had their last argument on Valentine’s Day 1995, eight years into their problematic marriage. After taking a 12-gauge shotgun out of a closet, Sally shot Ray once in the midsection.

Her husband dropped on his knees as she reloaded and fired again, this time in his face. When the shooting started, Shantina and John’s two small children were inside the house.

At the time of Sally’s arrest, she tested positive for the steroid Deca-Durabolin, and Ray’s autopsy revealed that five different forms of steroids were present in his bloodstream.
